Highest danger near the airport
Regular major air crashes highlight the danger of having an airport in the middle of our city. From 2000 to 2004 there were 1,246 aircraft incidents, with 395 being crashes near airports. (World Aircraft Accident Summary)
A crash near Sydney Airport threatens some of the densest housing in Australia, as well as the Orica chemical factory, the Port Botany LPG terminal and Sydney’s major petrol refinery at Kurnell.
NSW Planning Guidelines
T
he NSW Hazardous Industry Planning Guideline has the maximum risk criteria for an off site death of a member of the public set at one per million per year. Above this risk, there is to be no intensification of residential development. No other industry would be alowed to endanger us in this way.
